Work or baby: what’s YOUR priority?

About 2 years ago, this was the big question that lay ahead. My first baby would be born in the next 2 months and my IT work nature couldn’t compromise the times. My newly won “Artist Star Award” assured me of a promising future in the Organization. My husband is also an IT professional. And like me, he also has very uncertain office hours. Appointing a babysitter was an option, but somehow it didn’t appeal to us. We had witnessed child neglect with the neighborhood babysitters. Still, thinking for a moment would urge me to go ahead and have a babysitter, for the sake of keeping a good job intact. So here I was, wondering every second, day and night, what should I commit to, THE WORK OR THE BABY? And after a continuous era of questioning and answering myself, I SAID MY JOB !! This article may be useful for working parents, who are expecting the baby, want to dedicate their time and attention as well, but are opting for the “single salary” versus “double salary” sierra de mar.

Will I have any identity in myself if I quit my glorious all-time decent job? Yes … you are the same. Your identity is the same. Your qualifications and attributions are the same. Only roles are being changed. Instead of the office assignment, you now have a little life to nurture.

IS THERE ANY USE OF MY EDUCATION IF I SIT AT HOME NOT DOING ANYTHING? Yes … Education has given you the much needed stability and confidence to make critical decisions in life. Education does not teach how to earn money, rather it makes it worth earning and being self-reliant. Education urges you to decide the priority in several stages. And your top priority now is to responsibly own “parenthood.” And trust me, if even though the idea is driving you crazy, there won’t be a second of ‘DO NOTHING’. The moment the baby is born, the mother is born. You will have to redouble your energy to finish routine tasks as well as to take care of the baby in a parallel way. Check the diaper and change it, keep the room tidy, adjust the room temperature, wake up and sleep to accommodate occasional meals, along with the daily tasks of cooking, cleaning and washing. Routine medical checkups also add to the list. If you are a small child, you will find yourself running. Planning for the next season, new styles, new toys, baby food for the next stage, so many things to think about! Where is the TIME?

WILL I BE ABLE TO LEAD MY FAMILY ON ONE WAGE AND STILL PROVIDE A DECENT LIFE FOR MY CHILD? Yes … This is the only margin of discrimination between ‘Work’ and ‘No work’ that we are talking about. Analyze your financial situation thoroughly. You could be cutting back on your restaurant trips! Or maybe your investments will make you safe enough in case of an emergency! Reflect on it over and over again, until you are clear and satisfied with your own financial background. Financial restriction is the only genuine reason you won’t want to think twice, but just get on with work as usual. Think about it, there are not many additional expenses when the baby is small. Expenses will be higher when you start your education and along with so many demands are piling up, new shoes, costumes, mobile toys and many more. You will need money now, but from now on you will be able to go back to your old job.

Remember, at the end of the day, you live and earn for your child. DO NOT ignore it at all costs, not one bit.
