So you are one of those lucky few to be blessed with twins. It’s double the joy for you, isn’t it? But by no means does it have to mean double the trouble when it comes to potty training your little ones. If anything, you can use the situation to your advantage and teach them faster, it all depends on how you approach the whole thing.

Children learn through imitation, and herein lies a great opportunity for you to motivate your children by setting an example for each other. Works. Start by having the facts with you, once you know what to do, you can do it systematically when the time comes. A child may start to show signs of readiness sooner, the better for everyone. Train him while the other gets an idea through observation. Reinforce the relationship between bathing and bowel cleansing for both of you at every opportunity. We’re not saying there won’t be setbacks. Of course, there will be exasperating moments when your children simply refuse to sit on the potty. Keep your humor; you will look at these works fondly later.

Some parents may find it advantageous to train same-sex twins, while others will report better results training a boy and a girl. It’s all a very individual thing. Ideally, you should try to get them into a routine where they don’t both report tummy “pressure” at the same time. Managing two power packs inside one bathroom might be a little more than you’d expect. You will need to set aside time for the duration of the training which can last from three to six months and on some days you could participate in practical toilet training up to four times a day.

The key is to be alert to your child’s signals that he needs to use the potty; It is the most important factor in potty training your children – boy, girl or twins. Take the child to the potty as soon as you feel an urge on her part, this is the best way to get him used to the potty, to get him to use it.

Your two children may be potty training at different rates from each other; this should not be a cause for concern. It is important that you do not discriminate between twins if you perceive that one of them is a slow learner. Your feedback should be positive and the approach should be friendly. Do this and soon you will see that your children are beginning to use the potty independently, from taking their pajamas off, using the potty, cleaning themselves up and putting their pajamas back on. You may need to clean the potty until they reach a certain maturity and better motor skills.
