How do I fix errors on my PC?

In this day of almost total dependence on communication, information and entertainment provided by the personal computer, facing an unexpected problem is what nightmares are made of. That feeling of helplessness, fear and “what if I can’t make it work again?” it’s creepy. However, there are some simple steps you can take to correct some of the common mistakes, which crop up on the best of days.

Prequel: Perform regular backups, updates, and other maintenance tasks.

When you’re sitting in front of a computer with a dark screen, this is not the time to decide that you should have backed up the last big project to your hard drive. In addition to that suggestion, there are some other household chores that need to be done, whether we program the computer to take care of them or we perform them manually.

Assess the problem

If it’s a symptom you’ve seen before, it doesn’t have to be the same problem. For example, if your monitor screen suddenly goes dark, it may not be your computer’s power connection; it can be a switch in your home’s main fuse box. Do not attempt to troubleshoot a problem if you are not sure what the problem is. However, it is a good idea to check all power plugs, cables, and connectors. Cables loosen, ports fill with dust, and sometimes the power strip is bad or needs to be reset. Check the connections at both ends, the computer end and the power end. Also, if an error message is displayed, write down any information that appears in the pop-up box.

Restart

Sometimes that’s all it takes to get the computer working properly again. The computer re-reads the necessary files, the steps and follows them in the correct order and voila! You are back in business. Later in the process, you may need to reboot manually to follow the step-by-step instructions it provides.

read the instructions

Very good and detailed information on troubleshooting procedures is available in at least 2 places: You can read the instruction manual or the user guide that came with the computer. In addition, there is a troubleshooting guide built into the computer itself that will walk you through most problems in a kind of “flow chart.” At each step, you tell the computer if it needs to continue to the next troubleshooting step.

These simple procedures will not fix every error on your PC, but you will be surprised how many times a high-profile computer error turns out to be almost insignificant. The next time you are faced with a PC error, don’t press that button to call your system manager. Try to fix it yourself. These things are definitely easier than they sound. It doesn’t take a professional to correct a small mistake. You will be surprised to see your system up and running again in no time!
