For most people, the reason they wear deodorant is to get rid of body odor. Many deodorants contain a scent to help mask the smell. For some people, this scent will clash with their cologne or perfume, so they will prefer a fragrance-free deodorant.
Most brands, but not all, will offer the consumer a choice of scents. Some advertise a “Fresh Mountain Scent” or a “Rugged Masculine Scent” or a “Sweat Feminine Scent” or some similar advertising slogan. It simply means that a scent has been added to the deodorant during the manufacturing process. All deodorants start out as a fragrance-free product, the scent is added to help cover up body odor.
If the only scent you use is the one that comes from your deodorant, then it may be acceptable to use one that leaves behind a light scent. But if you like to wear cologne or perfume, you may inadvertently exaggerate the level or clash. If you work in a closed environment or in a crowded office, having perfume and a scented deodorant can overwhelm your co-workers.
That’s why more and more people are switching to fragrance-free deodorant, because it won’t clash with the cologne you’re wearing. They are guided by the motto that less is more.
If you’re an active hunter, you probably find that removing human scent will help you get closer to hunting the wild; Many hunters are also switching to a fragrance-free deodorant to eliminate their personal odor.
When hunting members of the opposite sex, many people now follow the theory that natural body odors are attractive, so they will use a non-scented deodorant to remove harsh, excessive odor, but still give off a natural odor from their body.
It all comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer their deodorant not to smell, others like the scent. Either one works, so pick your favourite.
