Top 5 preschool activities to celebrate the 4th of July

There are many crafts and activities for a preschool teacher to use in the classroom to educate children about the importance of celebrating Independence Day. These fun projects can be completed in the days leading up to July 4th.

Flag Fruit Pizza

Creating a flag shaped fruit pizza is a great way to get kids to work together. As a bonus, they will have a sweet snack to eat when the activity is complete. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and roll out some pre-made sugar cookie dough into a rectangle shape. Bake the dough in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for a total of 15 minutes. After it cools down, spread a layer of cream cheese on top. Finally, have students place the blueberries in the upper left corner and then create alternating rows of red (strawberries) and white (bananas) from top to bottom to finish forming the flag.

Patriotic torch

Patriotic torches are a great toy for children to greet as they sing songs like “America the Beautiful.” Show the children how to roll a white card into a cone shape. Glue the edges together so that the cone will retain its shape. Add thin strips of red and blue crepe paper to the cone by gluing one edge on the inside and allowing each piece of paper to hang from the torch. Decorate the rest of the cone with star stickers.

Bald Eagle Handprint Art

Once you have given the preschoolers a little lesson about the bald eagle and its importance as a national bird of our country, help the children create a bald eagle using their handprints. Dip each child’s left and right hand in brown paint and then press down on a piece of blue construction paper so that the fingers stick out to the left and right with the palms in the middle. Next, paint one thumb white and press it down onto the center of the brown bald eagle’s body. This forms the head. You can use the tip of a brush to add a black dot for one eye and a yellow triangle for the beak.

Bubble wrap fireworks

Fireworks are big and colorful, and many preschoolers love them. Guide your students to recreate one by cutting sheets of bubble wrap into long, thin rectangles. Children can use markers of all colors to tint the bubble wrap strips. All that is left is to place the strips on top of each other at different angles. Staple the center of each creation for the little ones, as they are not yet old enough to use the stapler on their own.

Independence Day Noodle Necklace

Pre-paint one box of dried ziti noodles white, another red, and a third blue. Give each preschool student a string that is large enough to become a necklace and teach them how to thread the string through each noodle. Once the rope is filled with red, white, and blue noodles, tie the ends in a knot. The necklace is now ready to wear.

After the children have had a chance to decorate the classroom with their artwork, the pieces can be sent home for parents to enjoy.
