Sachin: a billion dreams

A whole set of generations grew up admiring Sachin and his style. When Sachin was hitting, the entire nation wanted to be glued to the television.

People relate to Sachin in more ways than one. He is a hero in multiple dimensions, a feat athletes don’t always achieve.

Sachin’s followers are not only spread out in India. Around the world, Sachin is seen as larger than life. It’s the name that can make opponents nervous, even when they take the time to admire the game.

As Sachin retired, he was a part of every cricket fan’s life. One could not imagine a game of cricket without it. Many of Sachin’s fans were born while Sachin was on the team. His career spanned 23 years. That’s a reasonably long time to play at the highest level, being a top-tier hitter.

  • It’s hard to believe that Sachin Tendulkar made his career debut in 1989. It was also the year that Anil Kumble made his debut. The two of them became the best players in the team and won many games for India.
  • Sachin was only 16 years old when he made his test debut. Only three players in the world have debuted at a younger age.
  • Sachin took a long time to make his first ODI century. He took 78 games to start. He got 110 against Australia in the Singer World Series. This was at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, on September 9, 1994.

However, this was just the beginning and it set the wheels in motion for many more to come. Sachin’s career statistics would take anyone by surprise. These are beyond comprehension and very difficult for a hitter to pull off.

Sachin has gone on to score 49 centuries in the game’s ODI format. This includes a lightning fast double century, which is a rare feat to pull off.

Sachin has almost 18,500 runs in the ODI format and has played 463 matches to achieve the same.

Another interesting stat on Sachin’s career chart is that he has scored 96 half centuries. With 51 Proof centuries from him, he is the only player in the world to have scored 100 centuries in ODI and Test cricket combined.
