How to start a facial business in the comfort of your home

Having a business related to beauty and wellness can be very lucrative. Year after year, billions of dollars are spent not just in America, but all over the world just on cosmetics, skin care, and other beauty products. That’s why it’s not really surprising to see beauty-related businesses springing up all over the city. Makeup artists, stylists, beauticians, facialists and other beauty-related professions are probably the most in-demand professions today. Beauty-related professions provide many opportunities for growth and earnings, making it the most sought-after profession for men and women around the world.

Many people are afraid of starting their own beauty business because of the high cost of capital involved. Starting a business usually involves a lot of expense, but don’t let that stop you from starting your own. If you don’t have enough money to rent downtown retail space for your new beauty venture, having a home-based facial business is definitely a great way to start. With this, let me share some tips on how to start a facial business in the comfort of your home.

1. Plan it well. You shouldn’t start a business, or any other business, without having a solid plan. Formalize your vision by writing a good business plan.

2. Be a licensed esthetician. Before opening your home business, you should be armed with a solid understanding of what you will be doing, and in this case, doing facials for your skin. It is very important that you first become a licensed esthetician before opening your business. Unless of course you hire a licensed esthetician to work for you.

3. Acquire all necessary permits. In order for any business to operate, you will need to register and obtain permits from city officials.

4. Determine the location of your business in your home. It could be a bonus room you have or a little nook in your living room. Once you have designated a specific area, you can decorate it accordingly. Invest in room dividers, wall treatments, and a nice massage table that could double as a bed for your clients to lie on. Stock up on aromatherapy candles and essential oils. Be sure to decorate it in such a way that it evokes peace, serenity, and total relaxation. If you have to change the paint, do it.

5. Invest in a good skin care device. A good skin care device is essential in a facial business. There are a large number of devices available in the market today. Just make sure you get the best, something worthwhile that actually works. Having a good skin care device can increase the popularity of your business.

6. Spread the word, promote your business well. There are different ways to market your new business. Putting up a website is one way to do it. If you have additional funds, you can also post some ads in the center and you could also distribute flyers. It may be kind of “old school” but these methods still work, especially if you’re promoting a local business. Make sure you have some business cards printed so that when a customer walks in, you can give them a card.
