How does it feel to throw your first dunk

You don’t understand how good it felt to throw my first dunk. I felt like I won a million dollars. If you’re working on shooting a basketball, I promise you that when you achieve that goal, it will be worth it.

hard work vs. talent

For me, throwing my first dunk was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

Why?

The reason why is because I wanted to dunk a basketball since I was about 5 years old and finally achieved that goal when I was 15.

If I had been able to spike naturally, it wouldn’t have been a huge problem, but I actually had to increase my vertical jump through consistent and persistent vertical jump training. I spent over a hundred dollars on products that promised to help me increase my vertical jump to 50 inches.

Most of those products told me to lift weights, but I didn’t have access to a gym, so I couldn’t use the programs properly and see if the workouts actually worked.

I was also held back by jumper’s knee. I had inflammation in my patellar tendon and it hurt to do plyometric exercises like jump squats, deep jumps and even regular squats were sometimes a pain.

Regardless, I got over the discomfort and threw my first dunk at the end of my freshman year.

Is the monthly/annual commitment worth it?

If you really want to throw your first dunk, you have to analyze your situation. If you can’t grip or at least touch the edge of a 10-foot basketball hoop, then you probably have months, if not years, of training to start dunking consistently.

If he can grab the rim or at least touch the rim right now, he could throw his first dunk in three months or less, with the right training and work ethic.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how long it takes. It took me 10 years to reach my goal and it was worth the wait.

I admit there were times I wished I was naturally gifted with incredible vertical jumping ability and there were times I wished I didn’t have to work so hard to increase my vertical jump.

But like I said, at the end of the day it was all worth it.

It is much more rewarding to achieve something knowing that you had to work for it instead of having it handed to you.

Belief + Consistent Action = Success

If you want to dunk a basketball, it’s up to you.

Unless you’ve been gifted with amazing genes or a God-given talent, you’ll have to take matters into your own hands.

Believe you’ll dive in one day. Visualize yourself submerging. Then do whatever it takes to make that visualization come true.

The last thing you want to do is start making excuses. Anyone can do that. Success comes to those who believe in themselves and take action.
