Christening gifts for life

When shopping for gifts, you can often find yourself leaning toward something you might like. It happens all the time that we see a gift that we think is great, but we can forget that what you like may not be liked at all by the person you are buying for. This usually happens with adults, and we prove the point by going back to the store in question and buying the same product.

This is not so much the case with buying gifts for children as it is with adults. The toys and treats you buy for your children will never benefit you, except for the fact that they will keep them quiet for a few hours! However, when it comes to newborn babies, that’s when gifts for him or her begin to be chosen to suit a third party. It could be baby clothes that made your heart melt and fell in love with when you got to the box or it could be a suitable gift for the baby’s parents, like car-themed baby toys. Either way, no gift you buy will be appreciated by such a young child, as all she wants is a bottle of milk every few hours.

Of course with any newborn baby, three months later comes the baptism. Christening gifts are hard to decide, you can go with a little more baby clothes (although let’s face it, the boy probably got enough at the baby shower and birth to dress him up for the next two years at least) or you can go for something personal.

You’ll find that personalized gifts last much longer than a baby bodysuit from which the child is gone. They have a kind of feeling that you just can’t throw away. When shopping for baptisms, it’s good to buy something personal that will not only last a long time, but will also remind you of your special day.

How about a set of silver trinket boxes? You can engrave them however you like, be it with the baby’s name, birthday or christening date. Parents use these boxes to store their child’s first lost tooth, a clipping from a first lock of hair, or even their first pair of baby socks. These gifts are not only pretty but also practical and will take pride of place in any living room for years to come.

Perhaps for girls, jewelry would be one of the perfect gifts for her. This is something that can be engraved with the date of her baptism and saved for when she is older. Things like bracelets and necklaces with pendants make great gifts, as the chains on both can be lengthened as the girl grows older, making them a treasure to last a lifetime.

For young children, jewelry isn’t really an option, but perhaps a personalized stuffed animal is the solution. This would be the perfect addition to any nursery and the personal touch will ensure it is preserved for years to come and maybe even passed down to your own children one day.

So when you face a christening don’t just choose the gifts you’d like the baby to wear or the gifts that make their parents lull, bet on something with feeling and thought; something they will keep forever as a keepsake of those precious baby years and her special day.
