Boudoir photography is a growing trend in the UK and are you surprised? Who wouldn’t want to look gorgeous and glamorous, without having to turn back time or go on a strict diet? With the help of fashion celebrities like Trinny and Susannah, and in particular Gok Wan and his ‘How to Look Good Naked’ TV show, women are finally learning to appreciate their curves and finding the confidence to rock the figures they want. nature gave them.
Boudoir photography is not to be confused with the cheesy glam photography of the 1980s. It’s also not to be confused with the stuff you see in men’s magazines. Truly talented boudoir photographers produce works of art. Whether it’s elegant and tasteful nude photography or gorgeous lingerie shots… images should be sexy, classy and flattering regardless of whether the women are slim or plus size.
That’s right… we’re not talking about skinny young women as models… women of ALL ages and sizes seek out professional boudoir photographers for a variety of reasons.

Gemma, a busy working mum, booked a boudoir session at a posh Hertfordshire hotel. A boudoir photo shoot was something she had been wanting to do for some time and she decided that since she was getting married soon, a cute little album of glamorous and sexy photos of her would be the perfect wedding gift for her husband. -I know Steve.
Says Gemma: “Having booked my Boudoir session I was very nervous. I’m a UK size 14, I’m a mum and I’ve got the body to show for it.” Despite her nerves, Gemma really enjoyed her shoot and described the pictures of her as “jaw-dropping” and that she had no idea she could look so stunning. She also felt her self-confidence skyrocket after seeing the photos of her.
Ruth from Buckinghamshire is also a mum in her 30s and loved the whole fantasy of dressing up and, in her case, transforming herself into a 1950s Hollywood star. She says her boudoir shoot made her “look and feel amazing.” , beautiful and sexy” and left her with a sense of newfound confidence in her body.
She says, “I may not have the magazine ‘perfect’ body, but oh my gosh, I felt every inch of the 1950s glamor that’s just desperate to get out of me!” As a curvy woman who was about to show everything Ruth feels, it is very important to have a makeup artist and photographer who are friendly and make you feel at ease.
If the idea of boudoir photo shoots appeals to you, be sure to do your homework. As with other areas of photography, there are some mediocre and even pretty awful things passed off as boudoir photography by those who lack the necessary experience and skills to properly pose women and light them beautifully. If the photographer doesn’t show many photos on her site, that’s probably all she has, so she may have very little experience.
So when you visit a photographer’s website, look at how many boudoir pictures they are showing. Also check that it’s not just one or two women. Also make sure they have experience photographing women of different sizes and ages. If they have a blog, check it out to see if they have any updated work there. How do you feel when you look at the photos? Do you get excited and think “Wow! I would love to be photographed in this style.” Or you don’t feel anything. If the photos don’t move you…then move somewhere else.
If they’re much cheaper than other photographers, that could mean they don’t value their work very highly and are practically giving it away. After all, would you rather have a lot of poor quality photos at a cheap price… or would you rather pay a little more and invest in beautiful photos that make you feel fabulous every time you look at them?
