WoW Professions Guide: What is the best profession for a warrior?

Warriors, known as the main tanks in any strike team, can be a surprisingly good DPS class. Because all warriors switch to plate armor at level 40, almost any WoW profession guide will recommend mining and blacksmithing as an ideal profession option. However, these are far from your only options, as mining can be (on the best of days) a tedious experience.

Depending on your play style, you might find a profession like Herbalism and Alchemy to suit you best both in your wallet and your leveling style.

Mining and Blacksmithing

Since all warriors wear plate armor, one of the most obvious career combinations is mining and blacksmithing. Mining can be a great source of gold on its own, as the robots that once mined the ore have been banned by Blizzard, causing the prices of ore piles to go up in the Auction House. Mining can also give you a small buff called Toughness, which can increase your Stamina by 50. As a blacksmith, Warriors can create many extremely useful items like weapons, armor sets, and shields. To start leveling the blacksmith, only a forge and a blacksmith’s hammer are required. Both small towns and large cities often have forges available. Eventually, a player has to make the decision to specialize in Armor Forging or Armory. For the fastest leveling speed, it is recommended to choose Armor Forge, as sets give better bonuses than weapons. However, many blacksmiths make more gold as a gunsmith, so players less concerned with leveling speed may find it the best option.

Herbalism and alchemy

While herbalism and alchemy are not such a common profession choice for warriors, both can be very useful for raids (and warriors are one of the most valuable classes for raids and instances). Many Warriors enjoy choosing these two professions because they are very good at making gold. Everything you create and all your leftover rugs can be sold for a good profit at the Auction House. The healing potions and elixers that Alchemy can provide will allow a warrior to not depend on priests and paladins by having an emergency healing fix during long boss fights. The jars can be especially helpful as their effect continues even after death. Since herbalism can also give you a useful buff, Life Blood, which heals approximately 2000 HP over a 5 second period, Herbalist Warriors can enter battle relying on their ability to fight their way through any boss.

Other

The best option to level up for warriors is without a doubt mining and blacksmithing. Inscription, enchantment, jewelry, and engineering all have their place in terms of utility to warriors. The enchantment can allow a warrior to add enchantments to shields, weapons, and armor, and of course, ring enchantments, which only enchanters can cast on themselves. As a jeweler, warriors could create unique gems for some major stat upgrades.

However useful all of these items are, most of them are probably best left for exploration at the auction house, as you won’t be using them as much as a blacksmith / mining or herbalism / alchemy combo.
