Unforgettable Party Theme – Luau – Roast Pig Made Easy

House parties are very popular again. Today’s economy forces us all to tighten our belts. Save money by staying home instead of going out. Invite your family and friends to spend an unforgettable afternoon.

A luau-themed party can be affordable and fun for all ages. Island music, lots of fruit, leis, and limbo contests are sure to entertain your guests for hours.

To keep expenses low, have your guests bring a plate to pass. You can provide the main dish by roasting a whole pig. This may gross some of your guests, but your party will definitely be one they will always remember.

Order the pork in advance

Where you get your pig from will depend on where you live. If you are in a rural area, you can check with local pig farmers for a fresh pig. Local meat packers generally offer the best prices and will have the pork cleaned and prepared for you. If necessary, they will even freeze it for you. This is useful if you are planning your party for a vacation when the packer is closed. The meat packer can also help you determine what size pork you will need to serve your guests and how long it will take to cook.

Reserve the pork rotisserie

Call local rental stores to compare prices and styles of toasters they sell. Let the rental clerk know the size of pig you plan to grill, this is helpful in determining the proper cooker. Charcoal and propane models are available. Larger units are generally towed and some have barbecue grills. If you don’t have a hitch on your car, check with the rental store to see if delivery is available.

Holiday

Pick up the pig and the rotisserie early. A 100-pound pig can take 5 to 6 hours to cook. You will probably have to get up quite early for the pork to cook. You want to make sure the meat is ready on time.

How to season your pork is up to you. If you are stuffing the pork cavity with chickens or other meat, be sure to allow plenty of extra cooking time. For best results, it is recommended to cook the pork separately. The pork will cook evenly and you won’t have to worry about raw food. You don’t want your guests to get sick.

A mixture of garlic juice and salt is a simple and tasty way to season your pork. Make a paste texture and spread it on the skin and the cavity. A new paint brush or barbecue brush works great. Pierce the skin with a thick fork or knife to allow the juices to penetrate and give it more flavor.

The internal temperature of the pork should be 170 degrees. Let the pork rest for 20 minutes before cutting. If you can’t cut the pork on the rotisserie, transfer it to a large banquet table covered with aluminum foil. Have plenty of containers for leftovers on hand.

Don’t throw away the skin. Some of your guests will be looking forward to the crispy and salty snack. Have barbecue sauce and buns for sandwiches later.

The biggest advantage of cooking a pig is that it actually cooks itself. You don’t need to stand on hot coals all afternoon, you just have to check it out every now and then. That leaves you more time to visit your guests.
