Gerd is a condition that I started to struggle with when I got a little older. When I enjoyed even a single day without encountering that perpetual burning sensation in my upper body and severe swelling upon waking up in the morning, I considered myself quite lucky. At times, I would literally feel so sick that my throat area would burn for 1 hour or more, due to gastric acid going all the way up my esophagus. In general, I would feel so bad that it would make me throw up.

I asked my family doctor what I could do and he advised me to take PPIs (proton pump inhibitors). With that said, I followed his advice and started taking Prilosec. In the early stages, it seemed to really treat my discomfort. I finally began to assume that all of my reflux complications had been treated. Oh boy, was I wrong. After several weeks, I began to feel seriously unwell. My initial signs of nausea began to appear frequently, in addition to frequent migraines. Also, I noticed that I was more tired during the day than I normally am.

Shortly after I discovered through ongoing research that PPIs were actually giving me sudden migraines and prolonged signs of illness, I informed my health care provider that I really didn’t want to continue the drug treatment. Shortly after I had asked him if there were other remedies available, he simply suggested that I consider another type of drug. I really didn’t want to use any more medications, so once again I did my homework and found some recommendations that allowed me to help cure my signs and symptoms.
