singh is king

Moviegoers are eagerly awaiting the release of probably the most unusual movie this season: “Singh Is Kinng”. With Bollywood’s most interesting current on-screen couple in the lead, Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, this movie might just have the ability to strike the right chords with its viewers considering their chemistry in last year’s Namastey London and Welcome.

Akshay Kumar plays an uncaring Punjabi puttar who is compassionate, generous, brave and noble. However, he has his own downsides: he is gullible, reckless, and “accident-prone”. Katrina, who plays Sonia, on the other hand, is a bubbly and cheerful LA student who tends to lose her cool when seeing criminals.

The villagers send Akshay Kumar to Australia to bring back his partner, Lucky Singh. While searching, Happy discovers that Lucky is actually a Don from the underworld in Australia. Once, in an accident, Happy saves Lucky, but unfortunately Lucky is paralyzed. Thus, Happy becomes the new king of the Australian underworld.

The X factor of this film is the distinctive portrayal of Sikhs. Kudos to Akshay Kumar, who took the turban from him with wholehearted enthusiasm, which is already creating a craze among young people. The turban, or pagdi, has suddenly become fashionable. In fact, Sabina Khan should be given credit for designing modern and sophisticated turbans for Akshay Kumar in the film. Even American rapper Snoop Dogg is seen wearing a turban for this film.

Another element of this film that makes it unmissable is Katrina’s style statement as she dons Manish Malhotra’s ostentatious creations. Manish has proven once again that his caliber is unparalleled.

Simply put, Singh is King gives the impression of a competent film that is exceptional in its own way. The initiative to depict a never before seen image of a Sikh, showing him facing the stature of a king is surely eliciting the desired response from the audience. It shows that the scene is no longer similar for Sikhs, who were considered bland in terms of fashion or style. It shows that a Sikh can also set trends. This message is very evident in Narendra Kumar’s recent collection shown at Lakme Fashion Week, where he had his models don turbans and walk down the ramp.
