Shower Repairs – The Processes Involved

One of the most important aspects of a building is the water and sewage system. An efficient system will allow for the entry of clean water and the safe disposal of waste.

There are many appliances that use water in buildings, including toilets, sinks, showers, and water fountains. Since these are appliances that are heavily used in buildings, they are prone to breaking or jamming from time to time. Therefore, a plumber is required to have the skills to install and repair such appliances, including shower repair.

Faucet

One of the common causes of shower repairs is a leaky faucet or shower valve. You may end up losing a lot of water due to a leaking faucet in your shower. It gets worse if the leak is from the side that brings the hot water. This is because the water heater will heat more water than necessary due to the leak, resulting in a loss of energy. Water can also get into the wall causing it to rot and this will cost you as repairs can end up being very expensive.

Why do shower faucets leak?

When you have a leaky shower head, it’s because your shower faucet has a problem. Sometimes shower faucets can become blocked with water deposits or parts of the shower faucet can be rusty. It could also be that the seals inside the shower faucet are worn.

The rubber gaskets or rings that are between the moving metal parts are prone to wear and when this happens, the water starts to leak. When you have a leaky shower, be sure not to over-tighten the valve handle, as this can damage the valve handle and increase shower repair costs.

repair work

When doing shower repairs, a plumber will typically put rags on the shower or tub floor before doing any work. This is important to prevent any part of the faucet from falling down the drain. A valve is then closed that shuts off the water supply to the shower and is usually located in the bathroom or basement. The method used to repair the shower will depend on the type of faucet being used.

compression valve

A compression valve or faucet is one that has two valve knobs, so one is for cold water and the other is for hot water supply. The washers and rubber seals found on compression valves normally wear out causing water to enter moving parts. A compression valve can be repaired by dismantling the faucet and replacing faulty washers and rubber seals. The plumber needs a faucet washer kit that has all the parts needed for the repair job.

Delta shower valve

If shower repairs involve a leaking Delta shower faucet, the handle must be removed to expose the cartridge. The plumber then removes the cartridge and cleans the faucet area with a rag to remove any deposits. A new cartridge is firmly inserted and the handle is returned to its correct position. Other types of shower faucets, such as the Moen shower valve and the Pfister shower valve, also require cartridge replacement.
