Road and Transport invests £5m to improve Lancashire roads

This year it has been revealed how County Hall paid out a staggering £500,000 in compensation for damage, road accidents and pothole injuries over the last five years.

The Integrated Transport Block, which funds projects under £5m, such as road safety schemes, bus priority schemes and cycling projects, rises from £8.2m in 2011/12 to £12.3m in 2014/ fifteen.

The cash increase will delight frustrated motorists fed up with traffic jams and the deteriorating state of Lancashire’s roads.

Earlier this year, Lancashire County Council admitted it would never be able to fix all the crumbling roads and footpaths because it would cost £153 million – about £100 for each person in the whole county.

Tim Ashton, cabinet member for roads and transport, welcomed the investment, which is in addition to the planned M6 Heysham link road.

He said: “I recognize how important it is to invest in our roads as they are essential to the functioning of our economy and to people’s daily lives: stores and manufacturers need to receive and deliver goods on time and people need them to get to work, school, visit friends and family.

I have shown that road maintenance is a real priority for county council by spending £5m this year from our own reserves, in addition to funds provided by the government, which has enabled us to carry out more plans of resurfacing than in previous years.

Many people who have been involved in a car accident due to someone else’s negligence, or through no fault of their own, should seek the advice and legal guidance of a personal injury attorney.

Win or lose, you won’t have to pay a penny, there are no legal fees or hidden costs involved. A reputable personal injury firm will recover the maximum compensation you deserve and will also recover any financial losses or medical expenses for you.
