A key human commander in the Halo franchise, Commander Miranda Keyes appears in both the second and third versions of the game. Julie Benz and Justis Bolding slow down the character’s voice in later versions of the game. She is the daughter of Jacob Keyes, Captain of the human forces who dies in combat in the first version of the game.
Appearance of Miranda Keyes
Keyes first appears in the game while receiving commemoration and honors on behalf of his father for his heroism and martyrdom in Halo: Combat Evolved. Shortly after this event, a Covenant entourage attacks Earth and Keyes joins the human defense of the city of New Mombasa. When the Covenant army escapes, Keyes orders their pursuit and the human fleet reaches the Delta Halo.
Keyes leads the charge and divides the human group into two separate groups. As the half led by the Master Chief hunt down the Covenant chief known as Regret, she decides to search for the Index, an object that could activate the Halo and wipe out sentient life in the galaxy.
Sergeant Johnson and the human ship’s Marines accompany her on this search. Together they reach the structure’s library and successfully locate the Index, but the Covenant captures the two and the enemy Tartarus to activate the Halo. However, at this crucial juncture, help comes in the form of Johnson and the referee who kill Tartarus and rescue her. She is also capable of recovering the Index and preventing the start of the Halo.
In Halo 3, Keyes heroically fights the epic war between humans and the Covenant. The battle on the Ark, key to unlocking all the Halos, which was the goal of the Pacts, is the last time Truth takes her down while trying to prevent her initiation.
