Gamasutra is a site that says it’s about “The art and business of making games.” I know at one point in my life I’ve wondered how cool it would be to create the next Grand Theft Auto or Crash Bandicoot. We’ve all told ourselves about how we can make a better video game than some of the bullshit out there.
The site’s color scheme is very uneven from what you normally see and can be a bit off putting, but I think it works because it’s original and memorable. So when you talk about this site with your friends and they say ‘What was the name of the site?’ and you tell them, then they have already spread their name all over the world. All that just for the design and color scheme. I haven’t even gotten to the content yet.
Now for the content. After seeing the links at the top, some parts of the site cannot enter unless you are a member, but if you are someone who likes to play their games and only has a vague interest in developers, then those parts probably not. would do. It won’t be of much use to you. If you are interested in working on game creation or development, you can check out their ‘Jobs’ section and see the various listings there. Most of the jobs seem to be in the United States, with a few in Europe, so if you are really talented, the company might pay for you to move to the US It doesn’t seem too bad.
Gamasutra has its own store where you can buy guides, help books and practically any type of book / CD related to game programming and development. The site is American, so you will pay in dollars, so if you are in Europe, you can take advantage of the economy for once π
Now their ‘News’ section is very much industry related, as you would expect from a site like this. Now most people wouldn’t mind this kind of news, but I find some of it quite interesting and they have some good exclusive articles like the one from PS3 E-Distribution. They are very good reads and are definitely worth watching.
As for the rest of the site, you have a part dedicated to education to learn how to make games, as well as a place to submit resumes if you are interested in seriously getting into the gaming industry. If any of you do, please do something nice like Darwinia that shows you don’t need a big budget to be successful in the industry π
That envelops the site. This is definitely one for the hardcore and enthusiasts, so if your interest in gaming is just casual, be careful. A very interesting site.
