Emergency Drills – Practice what to do in the event of a disturbance

With the economic situation looking very dire in 2013 and the potential for hyperinflation and economic collapse made possible by riots and civil unrest, knowing what to do to stay safe becomes very important.

Some scenarios project unrest due to the government’s inability to pay more than 50% of Americans who receive entitlement checks each month. Other scenarios see hyperinflation as the trigger that leads people to take to the streets en masse.

Whatever the trigger, the situation is ripe for many unhappy, frustrated, and desperate Americans to take to the streets in 2013 and say they’ve had enough.

The best time to think about what to do in a riot is long before trouble breaks out on the streets. The following three tips will go a long way in ensuring that you do not become a victim of any kind of street violence.

Tip 1 🙂 Practice your emergency communication plan

When things blow up, there’s a good chance cell phone traffic is so heavy that it’s hard to get calls to loved ones. This happened on September 11. Although text messages can get through when phone calls can’t, it’s still a good idea to have a family emergency plan so everyone knows what to do.

Who will pick up the children from school or take care of the sick or elderly family member? Who will be the person you call, preferably someone who is out of town, to relay messages to others? What route will you take home from work, or under what circumstances will you decide to just hunker down at work at night?

These are all questions that need to be answered with an emergency drill long before anything happens. Type the plan and make sure a copy is posted in homes and in the glove compartment of each family vehicle.

This will go a long way in ensuring peace and security, as no one will travel the streets unnecessarily due to a lack of communication.

Tip 2 🙂 Have the ability to stay home

If there are riots, especially food riots following reports of food shortages, then the worst that can happen is if you’re in the middle of it simply because you didn’t prepare ahead of time. If you believe that the possibility of things going wrong in 2013 is very great, then it makes sense to prepare in advance.

By preparing with a simple stay-at-home emergency drill for the entire weekend, you’ll be able to quickly assess what you’re missing that would make things dangerous for you. The things you are likely to run out of are the things that would tempt you to run to the store. This is the worst thing to do, as this is where the food riots will occur.

Having a pantry well stocked with several weeks’ worth of food and having an emergency drill to test and evaluate it is the ounce of prevention that will be worth a pound of cure if there is a riot.

Tip 3:) Have the ability to stay at work

Considering how much time we spend away from home at work or traveling, the chances of riots or other forms of civil unrest when we are away from home are quite high. This is the worst possible time for things to go wrong as all of our supplies are at home.

Since the best way to survive a riot is to be away from it when it’s happening, the supplies you carry with you at all times in your car can save you money. An emergency preparedness kit in the trunk of your car will allow you to safely and comfortably shelter in place rather than risk driving home before things settle down.
