Parrots can be quite messy
If you’re the type who would like your home to be spotless, try reconsidering buying a parrot or any other pet. Parrots can be really messy, even a small parakeet.
Their food can be thrown everywhere even when they are inside the cage. Its floor can be filled with granules, seeds and nuts. Sticky foods can also stick to walls, cage bars, and even ceilings. Food will literally be everywhere.
Another problem you may have is their poo, which you really have to clean up every day. And they are not disciplined enough to poop in one place. In fact, they poop everywhere, in bars, in their food bowl, and even with the toys you give them. They can even poop between the bars, which can end up on the floor and sometimes even on you.
If you have a cockatoo variety or the gray breed, you will also have to deal with the dust on their feathers. The feathers will stick everywhere. So you really have to dust every day.
That is why you have to scrub the cage, its plate and the entire area at least once a day to prevent bacteria from settling in and of course the bad smell.
2. Parrots chew everything
Parrots love to chew on wood. In fact, parrot owners often give them wooden toys to play with and chew on inside their cages. However, parrots are not satisfied with these toys alone. When they get the chance, they will chew up anything they get their hands on. They will pierce your clothes, your furniture, even your books.
This can be really frustrating, especially if you’re the type of person who wants a clean house. Parrots are not recommended in houses that have delicate and fragile furniture. They should also not be placed in areas where they can break things and chew on antiques.
Be careful with wearing jewelry because they are sure to be grabbed or chewed. Parrots love shiny things. They can take the stone out of your favorite jewelry.
