Chocolate is a delicious food product made from Theobroma cacao seeds, both roasted and ground. Everyone is aware of the tempting taste of chocolates; they can be made in both liquid and solid forms or used to flavor different dishes. Chocolates were initially taken in the form of drinks by the emperors.

Lesser Known Facts About Chocolates:

There are many things that we don’t know about chocolates and we are definitely willing to know. Here are some lesser known facts about it:

1. The word “chocolate” originally comes from the Aztec word which is “xocoatl”, which refers to a bitter and spicy drink that the Aztecs used to make from cocoa beans.

2. White chocolates are not actually chocolates, it is because they do not contain cocoa solids or chocolate liquor, but since they usually consist of cocoa butter, they are said to be a chocolate product.

3. Cocoa was once used as currency. Because the Aztecs loved cacao beans and valued them so highly, they began using it as currency during the height of their civilization.

4. Cadbury made the first chocolate bar in England in 1872.

5. Chocolates are the only thing that has a special melting point of 93°F which is just below human body temperature. That is why chocolates melt so easily on our tongue.

6. They are immediate mental stabilizers and increase concentration, mental strength and memory.

7. It takes up to 400 cocoa beans to make a pound of chocolate.

8. The largest chocolate bar in the world weighs approx. 5,792 kg.

9. Chocolates are very dangerous for cats and dogs and can even lead to death.

10. Chocolates are effective remedies when it comes to coughing.

Advantages and disadvantages of chocolates:

Dark chocolates are full of nutrients, they are made from cacao tree seeds which are the best source of antioxidants in plants and also reduce the risk of heart disease in the body. There are many more advantages of consuming dark chocolates, such as they protect the skin from the sun, work as high antioxidants, improve brain functions, raise HDL and protect LDL against oxidants, improve blood flow, reduce body fat, decrease the signs of aging, etc. Chocolates are generally used to show a symbol of affection to our loved ones, when giving them as gifts, since eating chocolates can give the same feeling as being in love.

In addition to being nutritious, chocolates also have a negative side, as they contain a large amount of sugar, saturated fat, and are low in mineral vitamins. Excess consumption of chocolate can result in tooth decay, high level of carbohydrates and calories in the body, etc. Dark chocolates also contain a lot of sugar, but that’s usually half of what milk chocolates contain.
