What are the ways to apply for immigration to Canada?

There are four main classes allowed for immigration to Canada. These are the classes of the skilled worker, the family, and the entrepreneurs. The fourth is as a temporary worker or student.

The skilled worker class, or point system, is the most popular class to apply to. Applicants receive different amounts of points based on their age, education, work experience, and their proficiency in English or French. Points can also be awarded if a person has secured a job or is already working in Canada. Additional points may be awarded for factors such as a partner’s qualifications or whether a person had previously studied in Canada for at least two years. Special considerations are made for people who already have relatives living in Canada.

For immigration to Canada under the family class, a person must have a relative residing in Canada who is eligible and willing to be their sponsor. These sponsors must have a Canadian passport or be permanent residents. These include a husband or wife, conjugal or common-law partners, dependent children, a parent or grandparent. It can also be a sister or brother, nephew, niece, or grandchild who is an orphan and under the age of 19. Any relative who currently has no other relatives living in Canada can also be a sponsor. Most of the time, the typical family class application is from people who are currently engaged or married to citizens of Canada.

Immigration applicants to Canada who apply under the business class will be divided into three subcategories, which are the investor, the self-employed and the entrepreneur. Those wishing to apply for immigration under the self-employment category will need to provide a business plan that has been extensively researched, possess sufficient capital and a fair amount of solid experience to establish a Canadian business. The entrepreneur’s net worth must be a minimum of C$300,000 and must have prior experience in a qualifying business. Within three years of arrival, the entrepreneur must establish or purchase a business that creates at least one new full-time job for a Canadian citizen. An investor’s net worth must be a minimum of C$800,000 and they will be required to make an investment of C$400,000 of that in the Canadian Trustee General for a period of 5 years.

Temporary visas for immigration from Canada are allowed for students or workers. These workers must be presented with a job offer that could not otherwise be accepted by a Canadian. The issuance of the work permit is for the duration of employment, which usually does not exceed three years. Canadian employers are hesitant to hire foreign workers unless they possess a certain skill advantage or there is a labor shortage. Most workers with a temporary visa moved to Canada from their current employer. Students enrolling in a qualifying Canadian institution have the option of submitting a student visa application. This allows the student to study full time and work limited hours.
