The 5 most popular uses for tape

1. Hair bow
Hair bow making has exploded on the fashion scene since the beginning of 2010. Wherever you go, you are sure to see a girl, toddler or baby with a hair bow. Why is this? Well, as we speak, hair ties are getting more and more fashionable. Hair ties are made up of many different types of ribbons, from patterned, grosgrain to silk ribbons, depending on your taste. The best part about hair ties is that they themselves are versatile too! Clip them in your hair, to your shirt, or put them in a hat and voila! You have a versatile hair accessory.

2. Awareness ribbons
Now the tape is used for all kinds of causes. The name has a cause! Whether it’s for diabetes, breast cancer awareness, or AIDS awareness, there will be a ribbon with an associated color for that cause. And this isn’t just a fad either. In the early 1900s, a song was titled “Yellow Ribbon” after a marching song. And women often wear yellow ribbons in symbolic representation of ongoing trials or tribulations. One example is Penney Laingen, the wife of a hostage in Iran, who tied yellow ribbons around her trees in hopes that her husband would return home safely. And let’s not go to the famous old song “Tie a ribbon around Ole’s oak tree.”

3. Fashion lining
Another way that tape is used is in high fashion. You may have heard of haute couture as on the runway or known as “haute couture”. Well, many famous designers often use ribbons as components of these fashion styles. One of those items is the pettiskirt. A pettiskirt is a skirt made in the style of chiffon, often with bold colors and many layers. These pettiskirts often have a bow in the front made with a matching color ribbon or have a ribbon lining at the hem of the skirt. And now these petticoats have seeped through the fashion food chain and are popping up in baby and girls fashions. Pettiskirts are a fashionable garment for babies, toddlers and little girls. And if you pay close attention, these skirts almost always have ribbon.

4. Weddings
As we have said in awareness ribbons, the ribbon is often used to symbolize important and significant events. And what is more special and meaningful than a wedding? Ribbon is a great product at a wedding. With little touches of ribbon here and there, your wedding can look charming and feel special. As weddings become more popular and expensive, it’s difficult to keep costs down. But at least the tape is still cheap! You can put a ribbon on the backs of your guests’ chairs, to create a charming and elegant look to the whole ceremony. And a recent trend has emerged, creating a new use for the tape. Couples are now featuring ribbons on their wedding cakes. You can go around each bottom of the wedding cake or have the ribbon cover the cake, for a sophisticated yet charming look. And let’s not forget to tie the wedding favor bags with matching ribbon colors!

5. Jewels
Recently, the ribbon has appeared in more and more jewelry stores. We all know tape is great for booking scrap metal, trimming Christmas trees, and decorating homemade cards, but jewelry? But, if you ever find yourself in a mall, you will see more and more shops and kiosks with cute and elegant jewelry hanging from a ribbon. This tape is usually thinner and has collar closures at its ends. The look achieved by combining jeweled ribbon is both modern and whimsical.

And there you have it, one of the most basic craft accessories that is used in 5 unique and fabulous ways. There are many more uses for tape than are listed here, so buy a reel of tape and start inventing new and creative ways to use tape in your daily life. Who knows, it could be the next big thing!
