St. Patrick’s Day and gifts to buy

Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17th, a day celebrated by the Irish and everyone else around the world. It is a day of joyous celebration, fun, and laughter with friends and family. From the rural towns of the homeland to the major cities of the world, on this day the world turns green and greets the men and women of Ireland.

More than one hundred million people around the world will celebrate the day in memory of a man named Patrick. A man born in Britain around 385 AD, when he was a 14-year-old boy, was captured and brought to Ireland as a slave. He spent 6 years in slavery, mainly tending sheep. Then he left and went abroad to study, at the age of 30 he returned as a missionary to convert pagan Celts and pagans to Christianity.

He used the shamrock to illustrate the Holy Trinity, and why it is now the national flower and has given rise to the term “drown the shamrock”, which means to drink some alcoholic beverages in celebration. Saint Patrick was also well known for driving snakes out of Ireland, while to date there are none there; this is believed to be a reference to taking out pagan religions (evil religions – snakes).

With so many myths and legends tied to this day, in recent years, giving on St. Patrick’s Day has become increasingly common. The choice of gits is very much in tune with the day and its ties to Ireland.

The most common gift is clover, it is considered that giving a friend or relative a bowl of the green matter brings them luck. But other gifts are becoming more and more prevalent as people seek to have something special with ties to the history of the earth. There is a huge increase in unique gifts made by hand in the country itself. People love the stories and history of the country and the gifts that represent this while being made there are also really special and should be sought out and cared for.

I personally like to give gifts made from ash, the wood is of astonishing natural beauty, but the bond with the Irish for Ash is very deep. A handmade ash ring can be a beautiful gift for friends, family, or someone special.
