Located about ten kilometers from the business center of the city of Perth is the Cannington Greyhound Race Track. It is considered the main racecourse for the Perth Greyhounds. Other greyhound racing parks in Perth are Mandurah and Northam Parks.
The races held at Cannington Park are considered by many to be some of the best in the greyhound business. Races are held over various distances, from a distance of 297 meters to 530, 642 and even up to 715 and 744 meters. The track has a total circumference of 446.5 meters with a radius of 51 meters and a width of 6 meters.
The Cannington Greyhound Racing Park was established in 1974 and has been under the supervision of the Western Australia Greyhound Racing Association ever since. The dog track also hosts Group 1 events, with race meetings twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Race meetings during these days are also broadcast across Australia on SKY Channel, making it available for anyone anywhere in Australia to watch.
The Cannington Greyhound Race Track has many features and facilities to offer. It has full TAB facilities and dining rooms that provide full buffet and casual dining services. If you’re just looking for small meals and snacks, there’s The Chase Cafe. You don’t need to worry about car parking anymore either because Cannington Park offers free parking! For entertainment, gaming tables are available on Saturdays. One of its main features is the city degree course.
The most anticipated events held at Cannington Park are the Perth Cup and the Galaxy. Perth greyhound season is marked by the Perth Cup Carnival, which was first held at the park in 1976. During its early years, it was called the Gold Cup, but over the years, it was eventually became one of the most anticipated greyhound races. The Perth Cup is a race over a distance of 530 meters and the prizes for the winners amount to $140,000. It’s no wonder the Perth Cup attracts a huge crowd of punters and punters.
If you’re going to Cannington Park, keep in mind that doors open at 6:30 pm every Wednesday and 6 pm on Saturdays. On Wednesdays the races usually start around 7:05 p.m. with the last race starting at 10:30 p.m. However, on Saturdays the last race starts at 10:40 p.m. and the first race also at 7: 05 p.m.
