A lot of people tell me that they just don’t have time to organize. As the old saying goes, you will always find time to do what you want to do. I am a firm believer that we can find an extra hour, at least, each day to make time to make our lives more sane.
I found that mastering the habit of television can give you at least an hour a day, if not more, to do what will make your life easier.
April is National Turn off the TV Week, in which Americans are encouraged to hide the remote and find other things to do.
Why not find out how much time your family spends watching television each week and then spend that time making life simpler and less messy?
You know you watch too much TV when:
- You wish there were longer and longer ads so you could get more done.
- You’ve seen all the replays.
- When you have more than one TV.
- All your furniture is arranged to face the direction of the television.
- Television is your guest for dinner every night and meals are planned around your favorite shows.
- Your skin is pale and pasty.
- They annoy you if the phone rings during your favorite shows.
- When you constantly search for the remote control.
- You only use your VCR in playback mode for rental videos instead of recording shows to watch at your convenience, and you are a slave to the show’s schedule.
- You should have everything within easy reach of your Lazy Boy recliner
- You cannot imagine life without television.

Being honest about the role of television in your life and in the life of your family will help you gain perspective on what is important and how much time you really have.
