6 proven tricks to save fuel
1. Reduce speed
One of the best ways to save gas is to simply slow down. As speed increases, fuel economy decreases exponentially. If you are one of the “ten on the freeway,” try driving the speed limit for a few days. You will save a lot of fuel and your journey will not take much longer.
2. Replace the air filter
Another really good fuel-saving strategy that I once learned while talking to a racing driver in an endurance race was spending a little extra money on a high-performance air filter. For example, a K $ N air filter may cost a little more than your original air filter, however, it lasts longer and is reusable, improves power, and improves fuel economy as well.
3. Check your tire pressure
Under-inflated tires are one of the main causes of reduced fuel consumption. Tires lose air due to weather changes or just sit idle for about 1 psi per month.
4. Stay away from fancy extras
New wheels and tires can look good, and they can certainly improve handling. But if they are wider than stock tires, they are likely to create more rolling resistance and reduce fuel consumption. If you upgrade your wheels and tires, keep the old ones. I have stylish sports tires and aggressive tires on my own car, but I keep the original tires with a narrower tread good performance tire in the garage. For long road trips, stock wheels provide a smoother ride and better economy.
5. Take out the lead foot
You can immediately save fuel in whatever you drive by gently stepping on the accelerator. Jack Rabbit starts and full throttle dramatically increase fuel consumption. It’s all a matter of degrees: light acceleration saves more than moderate acceleration.
6.go back to the classics
The biggest fuel economy comes not from hybrid technology, but from the old standards: car sharing and public transportation. If you and a single friend or neighbor swap commutes to and from work, you will reduce your fuel consumption by approximately 50 percent. No other step will save you so much money. Also, if you have two vehicles in the family pool, leave the thirstiest in the garage as often as possible.
